At Wireless Festival, Roy Woods and Active Cause Bring Philanthropy Into the Cultural Conversation

By Active Cause Editorial Team

London, United Kingdom – July 11, 2025

Active Cause partnered with Roy Woods to host a philanthropic dinner during Wireless Festival, bringing together executives, artists, athletes, and influencers for an Active Gathering focused on using influence responsibly in a world demanding action.

Guests included Ikram Abdi, Smiley, Salome Das, Cityboymoe, executives from Live Nation, Burberry, OVO, City of London officials, and other cultural leaders navigating the intersection of platform and purpose.

Active Cause gatherings are designed to build long-term philanthropic infrastructure within the creative economy, connecting cultural leaders with structured social impact strategies.

The dinner, held during one of the UK’s largest music festivals, centered on a specific challenge: how to use your voice effectively in a very loud world that’s on fire. With social issues competing for attention and audiences expecting creatives to take positions, participants discussed strategic approaches to impact that go beyond performative statements.

“Everyone with a platform feels pressure to speak on everything,” said the Yonis Hassan, Co-Founder of Active Cause. “But volume isn’t the same as impact. This Gathering was about distinguishing between what gets attention and what creates change.”

Why Roy Woods

Roy Woods, the Toronto artist signed to OVO Sound, has built a career balancing artistic integrity with strategic partnerships. His involvement brought credibility to conversations about maintaining authenticity while navigating institutional pressures. A tension familiar to artists, athletes, and creators building influence in competitive industries.

The collaboration also reflected Active Cause’s commitment to meeting people in cultural spaces rather than asking them to come to traditional philanthropy settings. Wireless Festival draws artists, industry executives, and decision-makers already thinking about culture and community.

The Gathering created space for those conversations to extend beyond music into sustained impact.

The Conversation

Discussions focused on practical questions: When does speaking out create accountability versus performative pressure? How do you support causes without becoming the story? What structures allow you to sustain giving after the news cycle moves on? What’s the difference between amplifying community voices and speaking for them?

“The room had people with millions of followers and people with access to institutional resources,” said representatives from the gathering. “The conversation wasn’t about whether to use your platform. It was about how to use it in ways that actually help rather than just generating content.”

Active Gatherings Model

Active Cause Gatherings take place during major cultural moments when artists, athletes, and executives are already in the same city. Each Gathering is limited to 25–60 participants and structured around education, peer learning, and actionable next steps tracked at 30 and 90 days.

Unlike traditional charity events that optimize for visibility, Active Gatherings prioritize infrastructure. Participants learn about donor-advised fund structures, fundraising campaign tools, and long-term giving strategies that align with irregular income and public scrutiny.

The Wireless Festival dinner continues Active Cause’s approach of building philanthropic infrastructure inside culture. Previous Gatherings during Paris Fashion Week and Art Basel Miami have resulted in participants opening funds, committing capital to pooled vehicles, and building partnerships that extend beyond single events.

What’s Next

Active Cause will host additional Gatherings throughout 2025 in cities including New York, Los Angeles, Paris, Miami, and Atlanta, timed to major cultural moments including music festivals, sports championships, and fashion weeks.

Participation in Active Gatherings is by invitation and based on demonstrated commitment to learning rather than wealth level or public profile. Active Cause prioritizes diversity across geography, industry, gender, and career stage.
