LOS ANGELES, Feb 15, 2025
Active Cause hosted a private Active Gatherings dinner during NBA All-Star Weekend, convening athletes, creatives, and cultural leaders for an off-the-record conversation focused on modern philanthropy, responsibility, and long-term community impact. The dinner was held in partnership with adidas and hosted by Bay Area artist P-Lo.
The gathering formed part of Active Cause’s ongoing effort to create intentional, private spaces for cultural leaders to engage with philanthropy outside of traditional institutional frameworks and public-facing expectations.
Active Cause gatherings are designed to build long-term philanthropic infrastructure within the creative economy, connecting cultural leaders with structured social impact strategies.
A Different Approach to All-Star Weekend
NBA All-Star Weekend is often associated with large-scale activations and high-visibility events. The Active Gatherings dinner was intentionally designed in contrast. We prioritize privacy, dialogue, and peer exchange over programming or performance.
Participants gathered around a shared table to discuss how athletes and creatives can approach giving with greater structure and accountability, without pressure to conform to legacy philanthropic norms. Conversations centered on long-term planning, trust-based support, and the responsibility that accompanies cultural influence and compressed career timelines.
There were no panels, announcements, or media moments. The emphasis was on candid discussion and collective reflection.
Partnership with adidas
The dinner was presented in partnership with adidas, whose engagement across sport, culture, and community development aligns with Active Cause’s mission to modernize philanthropic infrastructure for cultural leaders.
The partnership supported a setting designed for thoughtful conversation rather than visibility, reflecting a shared interest in approaches to social impact that prioritize substance over optics.
Hosted by P-Lo
Hosted by P-Lo, the evening was grounded in a perspective shaped by community-rooted creativity and independent cultural leadership. His role as host helped situate the discussion at the intersection of music, sport, and social responsibility, reinforcing the importance of lived experience in shaping philanthropic practice.
